GM's MESSAGE
ONFC’s mission is to foster a sustainable food system. We do that by bringing products to market that are grown, organically, locally, fairly traded and without the use of GMO’s. Our products are naturally processed with a variety of health benefits including allergen-free ingredients. (e.g., Gluten free). We have a range of household products that are earth friendly, biodegradable, recycled or compostable. We are a not for profit co-operative that places greater emphasis on our mission statement and the triple bottom line than we do on the financial benefits of being in the industry we are in. Our financial success is critical to ensure that we can carry on the work we do to educate and provide information allowing our customers and members to make informed choices. We’re part of a growing breed of ‘social entrepreneurs’ that are thriving in a market that is seeking products to address their personal health as well as that of the planet. Our customers are increasingly making the connection between human and planetary health as they see ‘food as medicine’ that does not have to have a harsh impact on the earth’s resources.
ONFC is enjoying vigourous growth reflecting the demand for the products we carry, the services we provide, the values we stand for and the people who represent us. Most of our customers are members that have been investing equity in the co-op for some time now, doing their part in supporting a sustainable food system. The passion we display for what we do comes through clearly in the care and effort that our growing staff shows for our customers and other stakeholders in the co-op. We see the movement of food from field to table as a ‘values chain’; one that fosters win-win partnerships towards mutually beneficial goals. Those values include the support for family farms and strong rural communities. Our co-operative nature further serves our approach to the market through democratic principles and member participation in the long term direction of the organization.
Our success will ensure continued contribution to more sustainable living.
